Why foster with Telford Fostering? Fostering with us is different because we are a trusted, not for profit organisation with a wealth of experience and expertise in supporting families and communities.
We make the decisions about where all the children in Telford and Wrekin who need a foster carer go to live. We prioritise our in house foster carers first before contacting independent fostering agencies.
We make sure that you’re fully prepared and supported to become a foster carer and ready to meet the needs of different children.
We are different to private foster agencies because you are part of your local community and a support network of other foster carers. We care about you, our children, and doing the best we can to support you to be a successful foster carer.
Who can foster?
Our foster parents are from all walks of life, there is no 'perfect' person, and we welcome different types of experience that might be beneficial for a child.
We do look for qualities in a foster carer, like:
you want to make a positive difference to a child's life and help them feel safe
you are patient, committed, empathetic and understanding
you can provide a settled and stable environment for a child.
We also have some requirements for foster carers, like:
a love of learning and attendance at training
you must have at least one spare room at home and be over the age of 21
you have time, availability, and practical means to support a child, such as taking them to school, to visits with their own family and activities
you have some relevant experience through previous employment, voluntary work, or personal experience
you can work with other professionals
you are full time residents in the UK or have leave to remain.

There isn’t just one way to foster – we have different children with different needs to match the time and support that you are able to provide.
