experienced foster carer or have worked or work with vulnerable young people

What is Fostering Plus?
Fostering Plus is an
opportunity for individuals or couples to provide long term, family based
placements for young people aged 7-16 years old, currently in the care of
Telford & Wrekin Council.
These young people
are likely to have a complex range of needs and behavioural issues. Some may
have experienced a number of placement breakdowns in the past and will currently
be accommodated in residential care.
We offer specialist,
focussed training and support to carers. All placements will be carefully
matched and will receive a high level of operational and management oversight
What is required of Fostering Plus
You will have
experience of working with or looking after vulnerable children or young people
with complex physical, emotional and behavioural needs. Your skills may have been developed through
previous roles and professions, from experience as foster carers, or through significant
experience of living with vulnerable children or young people with complex
Ideally this will be
a solo placement with no other dependent children living at home. However, we
will consider people with other children in the household if these children are
settled, secure and assessed as likely to cope with a young person with highly
complex needs being placed.
This is a full time
role – if you are a couple one carer will need to be able to dedicate their
skills to the full time support of the young person placed with them and not be
You will be part of a
multi-disciplinary team of support around the young person and will be
committed to attending regular meetings and be willing to take part in training
and development as required.
The young person will
need a bedroom of their own.
You must be able to
drive and have access to a vehicle.
Fostering Plus benefits
Following approval you will receive £400 per week plus a weekly allowance of up to £232 for the young person you are looking after.
You will receive 4 weeks planned respite per year.
You will receive a comprehensive package of bespoke training and support. This will include access to supervision and support groups, access to support from a team of social care professionals, out of hours support and access to an emergency support line.
You will receive a retainer of £200 a week for a period of up to 2 weeks if you have no planned placement.
