Become a Fostering Plus Carer and help change a young person’s life

If you are an experienced foster carer or have worked or work with vulnerable young people and are looking for a rewarding role where you can develop your skills then this could be for you.

What is Fostering Plus?

Fostering Plus is an opportunity for individuals or couples to provide long term, family based placements for young people aged 7-16 years old, currently in the care of Telford & Wrekin Council.

These young people are likely to have a complex range of needs and behavioural issues. Some may have experienced a number of placement breakdowns in the past and will currently be accommodated in residential care.

We offer specialist, focussed training and support to carers. All placements will be carefully matched and will receive a high level of operational and management oversight

What is required of Fostering Plus Carers?

You will have experience of working with or looking after vulnerable children or young people with complex physical, emotional and behavioural needs. Your skills may have been developed through previous roles and professions, from experience as foster carers, or through significant experience of living with vulnerable children or young people with complex needs.

Ideally this will be a solo placement with no other dependent children living at home. However, we will consider people with other children in the household if these children are settled, secure and assessed as likely to cope with a young person with highly complex needs being placed.

This is a full time role – if you are a couple one carer will need to be able to dedicate their skills to the full time support of the young person placed with them and not be in employment.

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of support around the young person and will be committed to attending regular meetings and be willing to take part in training and development as required.

The young person will need a bedroom of their own.

You must be able to drive and have access to a vehicle.
